Fix the OSX Text Window

Postby Coriakin » Fri May 30, 2003 10:39 pm

In OSX, the text log window often gets 'stuck,' and doesn't scroll down to keep up with what's being said. This can get very annoying, especially if you need to copy text that someone has said, something bards do almost every time a duet or trio is played. Could something be done about this?

Thanks!

I have occasionally experienced this in OS9, as well, though sometimes it seems to fix itself if I de-select any text in the text window, and then scroll to the bottom. Sometimes it's hard to see if text is selected or not, and also hard to de-select, but give it a try.

Yeah, I've tried that, Xel. The only thing that seems to work is quitting and re-opening Clan Lord. :/

The only time I've seen that (OS X) is when I have scrolled UP first. Scrolling all the way down fixes it for me.

I have been having the same problem. Its not every time, maybe 10%, something like that.

Scrolling down to the bottom multiple times doesn't fix it. Even tried selecting and deselecting new text and scrolling down again. Closing the text window and re-opening it doesn't fix it either.

As Cori said, only solution I have found is restarting CL.

Can't say I've ever had that happen except for instance with selected text but I haven't been playing often this version. Thus, my question: is it recent or has it been happening for awhile?

Don't remember when it first happened to me, couple months ago maybe, not sure. Each time it was when scrolling up, not sure if I selected text every time. Its only happened to me about 5 times.

Also, occasionally during these periods of non-scrolling, I notice that it's very hard to select or de-select text. I think I triple clicked on the end of the very last word in the text log. (double click selects it, last click unselects, if you're lucky.)

Its happened to me a few times and is a big annoyance. However I haven't seem it recently and had assumed that it was fixed in some new version. Either that or I hadn't been doing what triggers it. Its very possiable some text got selected unoticed for me but I remember it happening after I scrolled up.

It happens to me all the time (as recently as this weekend).

I haven't really "investigated" it or anything. But I do seem to be constantly moving the scroll box to the bottom of the window.

Does it only happen after someone manually moves the scroll box and then it never "resets" properly to the bottom?

It happens to me all the time, find it hard to do stuff (as I tend to go back over things that people have said) which causes it stops scrolling altogether.

Only way to fix it is to restart and that kinda craps everything up if you are in the middle of something. Would love it if it could be fixed!

"Me too!"

This isn't a problem in CL 2.0's cool integrated single window UI.

It's been happenin since befer February when I started noticin it. It may be as far back as pre-December.

I'll try ta remember the exact steps I takes ta have it happen and have it fix itself.

Yep, mostly its when I've scrolled back and highlighted. I don't know if its related to copy/paste or not. Also, I've fergotten when it fixes itself or not.

For me it was happening extremely frequently at one point and I figured out it was because I had been moving the text window at the start of the game everytime (for some reason my prefs weren't remembering where it was supposed to be). When I stopped moving the window the text scrolling returned back to normal. I don't know if this is your problem but if you move the text window that does seem to cause it.

This started happening to me in the last 2-3 versions. It doesn't happen all the time, but I can usually make it happen in the following ways:

Often it's caused by moving or resizing the Text Window.

Sometimes it's caused by scrolling up (without selecting text...I never do that).

Sometimes it's caused by logging out with one character and logging back in (with the same character or a different one).

And, most annoyingly, when using an iBook, it happens about 90% of the time, without anything causing it (that is, starting Clan Lord and Joining the game causes it :P).
