Post by Torin » Fri May 25, 2007 2:13 pm

Here is the next prediction:
Asenath says, "An ethereal incursion will occur on DI at McBolie's cave exit to Voolcons, about noon on Soldi, 90 Autumn (Sat, 26 May, 1 AM EDT)."

With some assistance, I've moved the green portal to just beyond McBolie's cavern on Devil's Island. This should make it somewhat easier to approach for an incursion-fighting team.
The obstacle is the path.

While it is nice that Kani mentioned here (and /alert-ed) that the green portal was moved, I didn't realize it was moved to an area with no escape for me. (Limited PF, and the leftover ethereals pounded me when I tried to find an exit.) Please include that next time, so I'd have one less depart.

Please post when it's moved back. It affects not only people who want to hunt dredwood and foothills, but those who hunt cloud as well.

Providing it doesn't get much use, I expect it will revert fairly quickly.

Green portal is now in north beaches (the one north of the plains).

It reverted back on it's own to the cloud while I was clanning. We managed to move it off the cloud (albeit by jumping).

It needs to be moved, is there a shortcut to the beaches via nwf?

Via the Fringe yes, although you need a 'better pupil' pathfinder, check here

Did this incursion occur? If so, what happened?

Yes, the incursion happened, but we lost.

We had a very very small group of exiles to begin with, and many of them were "weak." The one initial spawn, of course, had dozens of hard creatures, including clouds, ethereal skeletons, and ethereal pods. We were routed in about three seconds. Some people went north to the cave, where they sealed their depart, as ethereal creatures came in and felled them.

The rest (3?) of us ended up going south. Luckily, none of the ethereal creatures would lure that way. I managed to leap north and pull the portal south with me, so people could come without immediately being surrounded by ether.

Eventually (after a long, long time), more people showed up. We had a small fighting force, and tried to go north in small fighter skirmishes. The way the snells there work, however, is that you tend to jump far away from the boarder. So many people were immediately surrounded and fell. With the help of Malkor, many people were saved, fell, saved again, fell some more, saved, etc. I helped out using a shieldstone to grab people and pull them back when Malkor couldn't. Regardless, we never really had any chance against the ethereal forces. There was too much strong stuff for too little strong fighters to kill, and any minor progress we made was undone when more spawned.

After about two hours of this, you could feel your head hurt, as no more ether would flow, and no victory of ours would be had. Thankfully we did not place a kyuem.

In short, we were massively overpowered by ether which our underpowered group had no chance of doing anything about.

It was lame. The people who showed up deserve credit, but Puddleby deserved to have its ass handed to it. I was worried that the notice was too short, but plenty of people were on. If more of them had given a damn, we would have had a chance.
