Move armed/unarmed to /options.

Post by Neko » Mon Jul 26, 2004 7:47 am

Neko uses his blade for the most part but when traveling though areas with weaker creatures, surrounded by rats, etc, He uses his claws(bracers) for the much needed balance. It would be great if I could actually put my sword up then by switching icons in the options menu and I'm sure many other people might use it to put away their weapons in town, make it look more like they are holding a small stone than a giant axe, etc. However if you did do this I would suggest NOT allowing it for alternate icons. Switching to unarmed is easy to justify as putting your weapon away but suddenly becomming a different person? Freaky.

I think I suggested something like this a long time ago.. (Not on the Sentinel..) Glad someone brought it back up.

Speak for yourself, spunky!

At long last, I can show the world Destian's shape-shifting abilities!

I would suggest that this be based off of one's actual armed/unarmed state. Although it gets tricky in the case of bracers (which is treated by the engine as a weapon, but IC it's unarmed combat). Shouldn't be too hard to hack a work-around for that in.

We have cloaked, uncloaked. Why not armed/unarmed?

Come to think of it, this should be something other than an /option as it'd be easier to make a mak'ro for it that way...

How so? "/option weapon off" should work fine in a macro

I have shape shifting abilities too! It takes time, though. For the last 20 years I've been changing from a trim and lean figure to an amorphous blob!

I don't expect that every new icon choice will have both armed and unarmed varieties -- at least, it's not a high priority. For those icons that do have both, it would be very cool to have the icon change automatically when you wield or put away a weapon, but unfortunately it's technically very awkward.

It would be somewhat easier to make it an /option, which would then also control your cloaked image.

Even if an icon set doesn't have a matching (un)armed set, a "nearest match" could be used as a stand-in (the nearest match might even be itself). This would make the code simpler (since every icon set could be assumed to have a matching set), and would act as a spur to encourage artists to submit more art.

Bump

Any more thoughts on this? I didn't see it in the new update, but there was no negative feedback and it couldn't be that hard to implement.

You could call it "on the list," but not yet "soon."

(In Clan Lord development jargon, "soon" means, "Someone's working on it, and I don't know of any technical problems." Nobody's working on this yet, but it's a fine idea and has earned a place on my lengthy Sticky-note list.)

This would be incredibly fun for pose macros, I can picture the perfect scene...

An unarmed Human 'boxing' (various attack poses that make it look like he's punching repeatedly) an unarmed Fen who is facing south, then poses angry, then switches to armed Fen icon set and knocks the Human out in a hit.

Ahh now that's something I'd love to see.
