*bump*
Any word from anywhere? Specifically... the account portal? Curious as I'd like to start a new character believe it or not.
Thanks.

Re: v1042 discussion
I'm sorry to hit on this point again because "what ifs" are ultimately pointless, but I can't help but wonder how things might have turned out for CL had there been a weekly or monthly recaps on clanlord.com (with a link in game directing players there as well) that would rundown all of the plot points that had been discovered.
It would obviously have needed to avoid revealing the importance of something that players were unsure about, but if players clearly knew they were onto something, there'd be no harm in updating the remainder of the playerbase about it.
I remember reasoning it out over a decade ago that the news network (basically Thoomcare built into the game itself) would be necessary if players were going to be kept informed because otherwise a lone player could happen upon a plot point and simply choose to tell no one else about it (and that could conceivably happen numerous times).
I'm not so out there as to say, "It could've saved CL!" or something, but I remember I lost track of the storyline numerous times until I gave up trying to even check in on it. It wound up downplaying what was the key element that set CL apart from any other MMO I've ever seen and I know it negatively impacted my interest in the game, at least.

Re: v1042 discussion
This is why I keep saying they should just do whatever they want with the source code.
If Joe can't be bothered to get off his ass for the ~1 minute it would take to tell them what to do with it, odds are he's not going to do so to stop them from moving the game to another server or releasing the source code, nor is he going to act before CL's pending shutdown (unless that's been put off indefinitely or something).
Re: v1042 discussion
as true as that may be, if for some miraculous reason any form of CL ends up making money and DeltaTao doesn't get some of that action, I am willing to bet that e-mail will come right quick.

Even without them profiting. If you don't defend your intellectual property rights, you lose them.
Always fun to get that kind of letter from a lawyer, especially when you're ignorant about the law and don't have the resources to respond.

Re: v1042 discussion
To clarify, I'm speaking purely of keeping the server up and offering some form of OS future-proofing for the remaining community that still wishes to play it, not of anything loosely resembling CL2.
I can't imagine CL's moneymaking days are anywhere but well behind it at this point. This is just about preserving the game before the server goes offline (though, I'm left believing that we're not in any immediate danger of that happening, and it's possible that Joe gave some of the GMs the go-ahead to "wrap it up" or something, with events that will draw the game to a close).

So.
Another month draws to a close. Are we any closer to knowing what's happening?

Re: v1042 discussion
Well if anyone out there wants a hand with server re-jigging, client wrangling, or other stuff, my offer still stands. Not that it matters much, but I am a Windows/Mac native dev by day, with a bit of Web dev by night because apparently one can't avoid that these days.
On that note, some things have been happening. Notably the Loremasters - right?! And the image file has got a bit bigger in the last few months. So there's something going on.

Re: v1042 discussion
My guess is that we're looking at the event that will "conclude" CL, though I don't know if that means taking the servers offline when it's over or finding a solution that allows people to contine to play afterwards.
Re: v1042 discussion
If that happen I hope that at least all will be given as abandonware.
