CLUMP Down for a few weeks

Post by noivad » Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:47 pm

The Computer the CLUMP was on started giving out very recently. It's been crashing left and right the past week or so. It started with video played on it making it lock up, then WoW, and this past few days it's progressed to crashing just playing music or even on boot. I was unable to reinstall the System Software or make a recent backup of content (there is a backup a few months old of the CLUMP.). No recent additions or changes were made to the system. And It's always stuttered on video since I got it. I'm pretty sure it's the logic board at this point. I've taken the system to Apple, and that are working on it. Luckily I have AppleCare, so it'll only cost me the money for them to make disk images of my drives in hopes that I can simply reinstall MySQL, PHP and MediaWiki and have the CLUMP working within a few days of getting the system back with no loss of data.

The bad news is it might take up to 14 working days. The good news is I'll update everything and it'll be a leaner and meaner system when I do get it back.

Until then I'm going to try to put up the backup copy of the CLUMP elsewhere if I have time this next week. With my work and tech school schedule it might be pretty tight, so there's a possibility that the CLUMP won't be back up until I get the Computer back. The thing's been a workhorse the last few years, and I'm still happy I bought it, but I think Heat and Time have taken their toll on the equipment. (My Room gets very hot with all the equipment in there.)

If it does come back later rather than sooner, I'm going to have to fit it in between university classes, work and tech school. So, hopefully I'll get the system back before this next month begins.

Web Peoples that link to me, please don't clear out my links I'll repost here if I get the site up on the real server. Thanks for your patience.

video locking up
logic board
You know, i'm having the same thing happen to my computer! I'm not gonna bother getting it fixed though, cheaper and more efficient to buy a new one, seeing as i'd also have to fix the battery, replace the screen, fix the wifi, fix one of the usb ports, get the casing repaired, get the keyboard repaired, get the cardbus repaired, get the CD drive repaired, and etc.

Man, it is TIME for a new computer. [/quote]

Okay, So I got he computer bakc and it started hanging for no good reason. I ran Apple's HW test on it. It turns out that I got an error with "Drive Bay" at the end when it did the logic board test. So, I'll probably have ot take it back it to swap out another Logic Board :\. In the meantime I'm trying to set up the clump at noivad.com, but the pages I loaded into the site aren't displaying. I'm getting the "you're ready to load pagesd into site apache/centOS page :\.

The computer is back and it's only soft froze (Cursor still works, all other things non-responsive) once on WoW. I thikn DT put some code in the CL client that makes WoW crash even when CL isn't running, so the two can't occupy the same Mac. Curse you DT! :D

In actuality I think they gave me yet another bad board, but I have yet to prove it, since it could just be WoW. But It froze one other time when it lost the airport signal.... Hmmm?

Anyway, you can once again point your broswers to https://www.noivad.net/clump/index.php/Main_Page and hack away at it.

PS: The certificate is self signed so you'll get a warning in your browser window about it not being able to verify the ID of the server. Now who had that real certs for $29 info?

Well there is a new host in the wings for the clump, we just have to figure out how to get it to not display the default webhosting setup page (apache).

Background: The domain is hosted on a virtual server with Tektonic. It is not the main nor only domain hosted on that virtual server. The domain in question is noivad.com.

Problem: When I type in http://noivad.com, the webhosting default page is displayed vice the index.html that sits on the noivad.net version of that domain. AFAIK the page is loaded on the virtual server. What I am not sure if it is has to go anyplace special. Also, I believe Noi wants it to automatically redirect the user from http to https (or to do so only when in the clump section).

Request: Whomever has Tektonic as their host, please email me or noivad to tell us how to get noivad's home page displayed vice the default one and to flip over to https by default.

After paying for the webhosting for a few months it would be nice to actually have something up and running!

Yeah, the CLUMP was up for a day or two then it lost the connection to the Wireless gateway I'm using. I set it to the back up wireless after I got home that night. It's serving fine now but the machine likes to crash when I'm using it sometimes. I really want to move it off this machine.

rotfl :)
"Your call is very important blablablabla" Good luck with that even if I don't know that specific tech support. I guess some might actually be worth paying (and I did tech support some times ago)…

Actually their tech support is useful. It's rather quick, no phone calls, just open a call online. And based on my one or two calls opened in the past, they do fix things!

Looks like Apple was right. I swapped out the video card for the one that came with the machine and I've yet to crash. Now I gotta return the video card for another one.
